¡Eptá! – Music Connects Cultures, People, and Stories
A new intercultural concert tour brings music, poetry, and encounter to seven Swiss cities. In autumn 2027, ¡Eptá! launches a series of concerts that brings together people of diverse backgrounds through music. Around a dozen artists from Roma, Sinti, Flamenco, and Rap cultures, as well as from Indian, Jewish, Arab, and Jenische traditions – all united by extensive experience in intercultural music-making – come together to create a concert evening that does not merely showcase diversity, but makes it an interactive, shared experience.

Central to the project is the guiding motif “Anchors & Being on the Move” – a metaphor for the experiences of many people: home and departure, homesickness and wanderlust, farewell and arrival. These themes shape not only migration, but the lives of countless individuals. ¡Eptá! makes them audible and visible through music, poetry, and personal encounters. The concerts blend traditional sounds with new musical arrangements. Different cultures meet on equal footing and co-create a programme that transcends stylistic and linguistic boundaries. Rather than a simple succession of individual performances, this results in a shared artistic experience. The concert series is complemented by children’s concerts, which offer young people a playful introduction to various musical traditions and foster openness to cultural diversity.
The first Swiss tour is planned for autumn 2027, taking the ensemble to seven cities in both the German-speaking and French-speaking regions of Switzerland. Further tours are envisaged. ¡Eptá! sees itself as a cultural contribution to an open and diverse society. Music becomes a common language here – regardless of origin, religion, or mother tongue. The project invites us to experience differences not as a divide, but as a source of enrichment, and to enable new encounters.
Why ¡Eptá!? The name ¡Eptá! derives from the Greek word for the number seven. It symbolically represents the diversity of the cultures involved, the seven concert venues, and the idea that a common whole can emerge from different voices. Under the musical direction of Christian Fotsch, the ensemble brings together professional musicians from various cultural backgrounds, creating a unique concert experience bridging tradition and contemporary life.
Behind the ¡Eptá! project stands the association “Musik & Kulturen – vivre ensemble”, which is currently in close contact with public funding bodies, foundations, cultural organisations, and other partners to build a first concert tour for late October / early November 2027, including a comprehensive side programme.Further information for media professionals: viviane@convivo.ch
